Housing and Residence Life Central Staff Operations
All residents with a current housing assignment are expected to officially move out of the halls unless they have applied for an exception and been given prior approval to stay on campus.
We recognize the significant impact that our move to remote and online instruction and the requirement to move out of our residence halls has on our student community, and we did not make this decision lightly. This is an unprecedented situation for Ohio University and for universities across the state and the nation, but the safety of our students and faculty must be our first and foremost concern as we face this public health crisis.
With consideration for the health of our entire campus community, we have developed a move out schedule and process designed to help students and families maintain social distancing, to reduce potential traffic and parking concerns to and from campus, and to ensure efficiency. At this time, you have been assigned a tentative date/time to return to campus, remove your items and return your key.
If you live on campus, you should have received an email on March 16 with your move out assignment. If you have a conflict with the date/time assigned, you can change your move out date/time through our Housing Self-Service System by doing the following:
- Login your Housing Self Service http://www.ohio.edu/myhousing.
- Under the ‘Room Assignment’ tab, you will be able to select a different date/time through the drop-down menu and then submit via the ‘Update My Time’ feature.
Once you arrive to your building there will be signs posted for our express check-out process which has seven steps:
- Return to campus during your assigned day/time for check-out
- Pack and move out your belongings
- Clean your room, and place trash in the nearest dumpster
- Clean out the refrigerator
- Close and lock your room window
- Place your key into one of the envelopes located in the lobby of each residence hall envelopes provided in the lobby. Print your name, room number, and PID on the outside of the envelope.
- The final step is to simply drop their key envelope in the mail slot indicated by signage in each residence hall.
Should you have any difficulty during the check-out process we will have on-call phone numbers posted in each residence hall where you can reach a staff member that can assist you. All residence hall doors will be unlocked during the check-out process which will start Tuesday, March 17th and will continue through Sunday, March 22nd. Residence Hall doors will be unlocked between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on those days to assist with move-out.
As a reminder, don’t forget to pick up your mail prior to your departure as each mail center will be open the same hours of move-out (8 a.m. – 8 p.m.).
