OHIO Coding Camp
The Ohio University Summer Coding Camp is a program offered by Ohio University to help introduce middle-school aged girls to basic computer programming with the hope of helping them develop skills that can help open pathways for them in this rapidly growing career field. The camp has been designed by Ohio University professors and staff who will work with advanced Ohio University students to facilitate the camp. Examples of the types of activities that the girls will do may include programming games, webpages, small robots and experiencing virtual and augmented reality technology. There will also be entertainment activities like swimming, playing games and going to a movie.
This camp is a residential camp that's held in June each year. Girls attending the camp stay in Ohio University residence halls specially designated for the camp and are under constant supervision by personnel associated with the camp. Participants receive detailed information as the camp approaches. Campers only need to bring basic personal items like toiletries and other personal care items, necessary medications, clothing, favorite blankets/pillows and perhaps snacks to have in the room. All regular meals are provided. All residence hall rooms have two girls, with a private bath shared by up to four camp participants.
Participation in the camp is open to girls ages 11 (by start of camp) through 14. A limited amount of scholarship funding is available to support students who have strong academic potential but need financial assistance to attend. Need-based scholarship requests can be sent to email@example.com. Space is limited to approximately 50 applicants.
Because of the need for personal distancing we will not offer an on-campus option for students this summer. We are exploring ways in which we can provide virtual opportunities for students and will make announcements here and on our social media accounts about those.
If there are questions about the camp, please contact the camp organizers by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling Jennifer Tate at 740.593.4884.
